Spirit Can Come In Unexpected Places

Experiences of Spirit can come in unexpected places. Here is my dog Niyo meditating 🙂 Really he is just blinking his eyes shut but the picture looks so much like he is meditating that it makes me smile every time I see it. I remember years ago seeing a flyer for a Ken Wilbur audio program from Sounds True and one of the bullets listed for topics he was covering was “Is your dog a Spiritual Master?”

Since that time I have looked at animals with new eyes and see how so many of them ARE Spiritual Masters. Their pure unconditional love, their joy, their forgiveness, their playfulness, their compassion are all reflections of the qualities of the divine. My dog Niyo has such unbounded love for EVERYONE he meets – even the gruff man sitting on his porch steps that I wanted to keep walking by. Instead Niyo pulled me right over to him saying “No we can’t pass him by-I need to go give him some love.”
