A Note From Shelley

This past weekend was a time of rest and catch up for me. I just had finished up the GAHP Holistic Psychotherapy and Holistic Coaching Live Training and this upcoming weekend I am leading the Retreats for my Holistic Leader Academy in lovely Door County, WI. Over the weekend I also spent a lot of time with my Golden Retriever, Niyo who turned 9 years old on Halloween! He is such a dear heart to me and I feel so blessed to have him in my life. In my Holistic Psychotherapy practice I have an email newsletter that I send out that has a “Note from Niyo” in each issue. Here is a sampling of a message from him:

Hi, my name is Niyo and I am a 9 year old Golden Retriever. Before my Mom (Shelley) got me—she prayed for a Spirit that would help her in the work that she did with clients. I came to be with her to help people open their hearts. My name Niyo is short for the Oneida Native American name Lawelyani yo meaning “He has a good heart.” I have some other names too. My Mom’s niece (I guess she would be my cousin!) Natalie had suggested the name Marshmallow so that is now my last name. Natalie was also learning Italian and wanted my middle name to be “Ciao”(pronounced chow). So my name is Niyo Ciao Marshmallow!

I am a counselor just like my Mom. I go to doggie day care and it is one of my favorite places. When a dog comes in that is scared they put me and that dog in a room together and I let them know it’s OK–that this is a safe place and they are going to have fun. To help them feel safer I roll on my back to let them know I won’t hurt them.

My heart goes out to all the people affected my Hurricane Sandy. Many of you reading this email have been affected. My prayers continue for support during the challenges so many are facing right now. In today’s issue of Thrive the article is about finding the gifts in uncertainty and challenges. I hope you find it uplifting and supportive!

Love & Blessings,
